(CAPA) The 2007 portion of the Runway Restoration Programme at Halifax Stanfield International Airport is substantially complete. The airport’s main runway reopened on 06-Oct-07. It had been closed since 20-Aug-07, with all air traffic handled on the secondary, cross wind runway. Minimal flight disruptions resulted from the work.
This concludes the third year of work in the six-year programme, and marks the last year that a runway will need to be closed for restoration. The 2007 programme saw: - Apron Restoration: During the initial six-week phase of construction, which ran from 03-Jul-07 until 11-Aug-07, asphalt was replaced on the apron area, located along the back (airside) of the terminal building. Shoulder areas at each end of the apron were also widened. Other work included milling and replacement of edge lighting, manholes and sub-drains.
- Runway 05/23 and Taxiway C Restoration: During this approximately five-week phase of construction (20-Aug-07 until 07-Oct-07), asphalt was replaced on a portion of Runway 05/23 and Taxiway C. As well, centreline lighting on the runway and edge lighting on both the runway and taxiway were replaced, along with new hold line lights on the taxiway. Other work included milling, sub-drain replacement, and widening of the shoulder areas.
