Tags :Uncategorised (CAPA) The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Mark Vaile, announced the approval of a Major Development Plan for the refurbishment and expansion of the T1 and T2 terminals at Gold Coast Airport. “The Gold Coast Airport is a key global gateway for tourism, business travel and the shipment of freight to the Pacific Rim,” Mr Vaile said. “Gold Coast Airport has continued to grow in terms of both its domestic and international airline services resulting in the terminals experiencing some congestion. The proposed alterations and additions to the terminal building will relieve congestion and provide a seamless travelling experience for airport patrons. “The investment in this new terminal expansion and refurbishment is of fundamental importance to meeting the future aviation needs of the Gold Coast and surrounding regions. “Approval for the proposed redevelopment follows close on the heels of the recent opening of a AUD25 million runway extension at Gold Coast Airport. This is a further demonstration of privatised airports investing in aeronautical infrastructure to meet the strong growth in aviation.” Mr Vaile said approval for the development was subject to a number of conditions that would ensure that aviation safety and security considerations were fulfilled and which would provide a further mechanism for ensuring that measures for the appropriate management of the environmental and other impacts of the development were implemented. The approval of the development follows a public consultation process undertaken by Gold Coast Airport earlier this year and takes into account the comments made during the process. |
