Bengaluru International Airport receives ISO 14001: 2004 certification11-Feb-2010 |

Tags :SAARC Official recognition of the airport management’s constant efforts towards a greener airport and city Bengaluru International Airport today received the ISO 14001:2004 certification, the internationally recognized Environmental Management System (EMS) Standard. Bangalore International Airport attained the certification after a series of audits by DET NORSKE VERITAS (DNV) at BIAL offices and key airport sites. All critical sites of the airport will be assessed annually to ensure continual development of the EMS currently in place. S. Nandakumar from DET NORSKE VERITAS (DNV) commented, “We are happy to present Bangalore International Airport with ISO 14001:2004 certification. This is an official recognition of BIAL's ongoing commitment to Environmental Management System and their ability to manage critical environmental standards through efficient supervision and systems. This certification reiterates the airport’s focus and long-term commitment to Operational and Sustainable Performance”. Some of the measures taken by the airport that went towards it achieving the ISO 14001:2004 certification include installing energy efficient technologies, adapting to continual improvement of its environmental performance and ensuring the company meets all necessary statutory and regulatory obligations. “We are extremely proud that our environmental management system complies with the stringent ISO 14001: 2004 certification standards. Being one of the first greenfield airports, we not only had the advantage of effectively planning Bengaluru International Airport’s infrastructure for sustainable development, but we also proactively adopted environmental operational safety, with latest efficient equipments and best practices right from the initial stages. This is an important step in fulfilling our aim of being a sustainable airport”, said Marcel Hungerbuehler, CEO, BIAL on receiving the certification.
