Reichle and De-Massari (R&M), the Swiss structured cabling specialist, signals the need for airport operators to upgrade existing network infrastructure as air passenger traffic in the Middle East is set to increase by 8.7% in the coming years.

Despite the slowdown in other regions, the Middle East's aviation sector has seen limited effect and is the only region witnessing increases in air traffic. Fuelled by growing demand for air travel, the 12 major airports across the Middle East are set to invest $86bn in expanding and upgrading existing infrastructure over the next decade to handle passenger flow.

R&M advises airport operators that the installation of high performance future proof cabling is the foundation for a robust and reliable network infrastructure, capable of handling current and future airport traffic network needs. The Swiss cabling specialist also notes that a fail proof and secure network infrastructure is essential to safeguard against connection failures which result in data loss and potentially more significant damage. Airport operations are particularly sensitive to any connection failures, and thus require the highest levels of security for both passive and active components.

Jean Pierre Labry, Managing Director of R&M Middle East and Africa, commented, "Airport operators in the Middle East are under increasing pressure to serve growing passenger traffic as the region's airports prepare to become global travel hubs. R&M advises deploying high performance cabling as an integral part of an airport's reliable and secure network infrastructure."

"R&M's airport cabling product portfolio delivers faultless network performance coupled with scalability. By deploying scalable solutions with forward looking designs and modularity, airport operators are able to serve current and future network demands while extending the life of a key part of the infrastructure. Over time, performance is optimized while savings are ongoing and significant," added Labry.

R&M has been involved in a number of airport modernization projects addressing airport operator demand to upgrade existing cabling infrastructure. Recently R&M has completed several multi-phase installations at airports both worldwide and at the regional level, such as Paris, Geneva, Basel, Nuremberg, Seoul's Incheon, Egypt's Marsa Alam, and Sudan's Khartoum International Airport.

The company's extensive fiber and copper airport product portfolio incorporate innovative product features enabling optimized network performance while maintaining the highest security standards and ease of installation. To meet growing network security requirements, R&M offers a 3 level security system for its fiber and copper connectors. All components are Swiss engineered, compliant to next generation network transmission speeds and meet the latest OS2 standards.

R&M structured cabling solutions cater to the growing demand by organizations and enterprises to high speed uninterrupted access to information across their networks in a secure environment. The company is one of the region's top three players in the network cabling sector in terms of market share, having completed several major network installations throughout the Middle East and Africa. The company has extensive domain experience in the health, petroleum, transportation, infrastructure, tourism, finance, industrial, and environmental sectors, and is represented internationally in over 30 countries.
